My grandparents immigrated to Mexico from Syria at the beginning of the 1900s. My parents are part of the first Mexican-born Jewish Syrian generation, which makes me part of the second! I was born in Mexico City.
Growing up in a Middle Eastern Mexican home cultivated a very unique culinary taste. Sometimes we had Syrian meals, sometimes Mexican ones, but occasionally we had an absolutely delicious fusion of the two!
I moved to the States in 1990. I have three amazing kids who are away at college; they enjoy coming home to eat and having most of their meals at home (they claim to miss my cooking... not sure if I believe it or not, but I'm happy to cook everything they like and more!)
I started Cooking with Margot almost two years ago for several different reasons. The first and most important reason is my love for cooking. Being a dedicated oil painter, I am always quick to appreciate different forms of art, and cooking speaks to me the same way a canvas does. The second reason is that my refrigerator and stove were getting too sad and empty from not getting enough use. I also love to share what I know and enjoy when people try new flavors and recipes. Lastly, I wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to "cook for Israel" since a big portion of my earnings are donated to Israel through the Jewish National Fund.
I offer a wide variety of services, such as small party catering; in-home chef services; or simply a family-style meal catering; as well as different cooking class options, all with a full menu to enjoy at the end of every class. My cooking classes are offered on weekday mornings and evenings; Saturday nights for couples, singles, or under 30s; and Sunday brunches.
